Hi everyone in journal land



Today is the end of the holiday pond work. When I started at the beginning of the holidays, the boss and me agreed that I would take a break today, have the weekend and Monday off before starting back to same ole > same ole on Tuesday. Of course when we agreed, we didn't know about the flooding and that I wouldn't really get any days off in between (or many evenings either) - I'm back to weekends now :)



Anyhow boss has been really good, he's kept a really clear record on every single hour I have worked (he even included all the time we spent driving around, which isn't really work but eh). He's paid me for every single hour so, with all that extra work, it was a LOT



He had paid me a £200 bonus during all the flood work and had said that was a sort of part bonus payment, I hadn't heard another mention since, so figured he'd forgotten all about it. But no, today, with my wages, he gave me £300 !!! In total I got a whole £500 bonus woooooooooo



Anyhow wages have gone in my building society. I'm going to look at how to adopt a wolf in a zoo near here with the extra money I got today - how cool is that ! I will buy some new lights for my bike first though



Anyhow I'm off to rate some whelps ...

Today I drove a dinosaur. Well OK it was a mini digger, but it was just as much fun as a dinosaur ...



Usually I maintain ponds that are already in place, the Boss puts in new ponds himself. Today, he took me along to help with a new pond because 'I'd been so good in the rush' that is I have spent my whole holiday working long hours fixing ponds for him.



Anyhow there's a new house being built and we're doing a Koi pond in the side garden. Its a little tight on time because we have to finish so the builders can put decking out to overlap the pond edge - it'll be nice when its done, but they will have to remember a rail



This mini digger is unloaded from a truck and, before I knew it, the guy is giving me instructions on how it works - boss doesn't seem to mind so I wobble across the site with it and start to chew a big hole in the ground



It's great fun. I was a little too short to work it really well, there was a tree on one side and if I lifted myself out of the seat to look over the arm, the engine cut out. I put a bag of pond sand on the seat and that kept the engine running, though the boss wasn't too happy about that



Anyhow the hole is well and truly dug, 1m deep dontchaknow, really pretty huge shape. Its going to be a concrete pond, so the boss was putting the blocks and reinforcing rods in



The house builders, who had a HUGE digger, were laughing at me most of the morning. Its good I cheered up their day especially as I showed them up. At the end of the day all they had done was dug a hole, well I had dug a hole and knocked over a fence

I was there tracking down a book description for the database. Amazon didn't actually mention anything about vampires but finally I found it ...



Dad ended up watching me work, then was suggesting a way to post something to the House Eternal forum



Then mum arrived with drinks to add a funny message to a house member (sorry)



Step sister arrives to call it all stupid, but sat and joined in a discussion about the main VR forum anyhow ...



We batted ideas back and forward, tried different words here and there and finally had the most awesome reply that there ever could be ... only problem is was, by the time we were all agreed, the thread was RAI'd

We bought a new air freshener for the utility room, mostly because that's where I dump all my fish glooped clothes for the laundry fairy to deal with :)



It was a Glade Wisp - a little battery causes it to shoot a tiny cloud of perfume every so often.



So I set it all up.



Now screwing the little bottle in was no problem but naturally it did release the smell a little. So once I was done, I couldn't be sure if it was working .... I mean, everything smelled of "barley meadow"



I turned it up to max and held it against a black background, nothing seemed to happen so I thought maybe I should check if the tiny nozzle was blocked.



Its 1am, I have just come back from the hospital with a bottle of eye drops and really, really red eyes.



Stoopid thing is going in the shed

I decided to stay up til midnight, wrapped in my duvet on the sofa watching "Dracula - Prince of darkness"



I was looking forward to it. It was so good, i ended up spending the last hour rating whelps LOL



Oh well, off to bed - more ponds are calling

quick visit today cos there's a party woooooo



We were rushed today trying to complete the last two mud-filled ponds, so that tomorrow we can get back to the regular pond maintenance that has been backing up a little - it would have been impossible but 'luckily' some of our routine maintenance customers were mud-filled ... hope that makes sense



Anyhow we have a one-off customer just to clear the pond this morning. The pond has only filled about 70% with mud and there are some fish swimming in what water is left, a little too close to the surface to be good though.



I catch the fish and put them in a kinda big black box with water and stuff to help them clean out and heal where the mud has rubbed holes in their slime coat.



Start pumping out the mud no problem, cleaning it nicely and the heavens opened. It really chucked it down in lumps, so I run into the greenhouse for cover.



Customers starts shouting at me from the house, so I run over and she asks me to move the black box into shelter or her (quote) "fish will be ruined" (unquote)

Wooooooo hoooooooo



The pond business has been working flat out fixing people's mud filled ponds after the floods. I've been working some days maybe 10 hours - and getting paid by the hour woooooooo

the boss has been hinting about a bonus since we started this run ... today he gave me an 'advance' on my bonus along with my wages ... I'd been a little worried because I hadn't been paid on Friday simply because the boss hadn't been able to get to a cash machine and everyone was paying by cheque or through insurance companies



Today he gave me my wages, which was a LOT and £200 as 'part' of my bonus - £200 !!!! wooooooooo



Anyhow I have put my wages in my building society and am going to decide what to buy with my bonus - VR store looks attractive LOL



Anyhow its swim club tonight, so I will catch up with you tomorrow, reader

Ponds and protectors

Doing ponds like there's no tomorrow - had three in neighbouring gardens today. I start one going, then climb over fence to set up next and back and forth all day until they were all done.



These were more 'completely full of flood mud' ponds - basic charge is £450, one guy had two specialised pumps to go in, but he had bought those himself - I think an insurance company somewhere must be paying for this, because no-one is saying anything about the price. That's like £1350 for the boss in just one day and only from the ponds I was doing (he's doing others someplace else) he says I will get a bonus *rubs hands*

BIRD BOX UPDATE



Lots of noise from the box the last few days, one of them has been rushing back and forward from the hole. Reckon they're either having a fight, making little birdies or probably just hungry

The holiday is going to be really busy ... lotsa money



Most people's ponds suffered in the floods, strangely they all seemed to handle being overfilled really well - OK a few fish might've floated out but, mostly, they look really healthy water wise



Some ponds however didn't - the over filling wasn't a problem - it was the mud that followed the water as it drained away, it soon filled the hole completely up with really bad smelling goo



I have a technique for it now though. I did a hole in the middle of where we think the pond is, and put in a hose and a ditch emptying pump. The water reduces the mud to a smooth goo that the pump can handle.



A little playing with a pressure washer and, within a few hours, you have a really clean and completely empty pond - we put in a new pump, water and plants - and come back in September with some fishies.



All you have to do is smile, say how clever it is and pay £450 - wooooooooo
